pCloud review -Privacy Minded Cloud Storage

Most Americans know that the Patriot Act was instituted in 2001 to help the US government fight terrorism. For almost 20 years US law enforcement agencies have used it (and the more recent CLOUD Act) to surveil its own citizens for anything they felt reasonable (even when the courts later said it was illegal).

Companies like DropBox and Google Drive will give your information to any government, China, Russia, USA. They care more about making money than what is right. So how can you protect yourself?

Why is pCloud better?

First of all pCloud is based in Switzerland in 2013. That is a country known for respecting privacy and making security a top priority. File transfers are done with TLS encryption so they are VERY hard to intercept during upload or download. Your documents cannot realistically be intercepted by man in the middle attacks or organizations spying on your internet connection.

Once pCloud has your files, they then steps it up a notch. They store your files with 256-bit AES encryption. This is the industry best practice for cloud storage encryption.

pCloud has one more trick for protecting your data and it is part of what makes it our favorite. They offer a “Crypto Encryption” add on for about $50 a year or $125 for a lifetime. Yes, you have to pay extra for it but most other cloud services don’t offer it at all.

pCloud Crypto locks the files before being uploaded and aren’t opened again until you download them and unlock them yourself. Since they are encrypted on the “Client side”, even if pCloud opened your account all they would see are encrypted files they can’t open.

Note: Make sure to store your encryption password somewhere safe. This is great security against overreaching governments but it also means pCloud can’t help you open them if you lose your password.

Cost of Subscriptions

The free membership gives you 10GB of storage and 50GB of downloads/streaming per month. Most cloud storage services only give you 2GB and 10GB streaming on their free plans so pCloud offers a whole lot more.

The 500 GB plan is $5/month, $48/year or $175 for the lifetime plan. You get a few more customization options plus 500GB download/streaming per month from your account

The 2TB plan is $10/month, $96/year or $350 for the lifetime plan. You get the same customization options as the other paid plans plus 2TB download/streaming per month from your account.

They accept credit cards, Paypal and BTC with a 10 day money back guarantee. They accept bitcoin!

Lifetime plans obviously offer the best value. If you paid for 3 years of membership the price is roughly the same as the lifetime plan with its HUGE discount. They have been around since 2013 and have received good reviews by many of the tech websites so there is no reason to believe they won’t be around for years to come.
